Oklahoma State University System Parking & Transit
Roll Out August 1st for “Bikes On Buses” Tour de Stillwater

Stillwater, Okla. – THE BUS Community Transit System is please to announce the merging of two great transportation options – bicycles and THE BUS! Beginning August 1, 2007, THE BUS will offer a new “Bikes On Buses” program that will allow passengers to ride their bicycles to a bus stop, load their bike on a bike rack mounted on the front of THE BUS and continue their trip. “With high gas prices, this is a great alternative to driving to get around Stillwater and the OSU campus,” stated Hugh E. Kierig, AICP, Director of Parking and Transit Services.

All transit buses within THE BUS fleet will be equipped with bicycle racks that carry 2 to 3 bikes. Large buses will hold three bikes while the smaller 30 foot buses will hold two bicycles. Passengers that have bicycles will load their bikes with a very simple loading procedure that takes no more than 10 seconds. When the passenger is leaving THE BUS, they will need to notify the bus operator that their bicycle is on the front.

The “Bikes on Buses” campaign is apart of the Department of Parking and Transit Services’ Options program implemented in 2006. The Options promotion encourages the use of alternative transportation including public transportation, bicycles, walking, and carpool. This Bikes On Buses Option is especially convenient for those who bike to campus and would like to utilize the transit system.
