Stillwater, Okla. – It's not uncommon for passengers riding The Bus to strike up a conversation while en route to their destinations. Most people chat with one another on The Bus just to pass the time until they reach their stops.
However, starting on Friday, February 25, passengers will be able to strike up a conversation with celebrity passengers while riding The Bus.
The Bus is starting a new campaign, aptly called “You Never Know Who You'll Meet on The Bus.” Local celebrities and community leaders from the University and the City of Stillwater will ride bus routes and be available to speak with passengers on those routes.
“It is our hope to make the bus a place for bus passengers to meet University and community leadership. We would like to turn this into a mobile town hall where people can meet and discuss local issues with local leaders,” said Hugh E. Kierig, Department of Parking and Transit Services Manager. “All of the personalities that we have contacted about the idea love it and think it is a great way to meet their constituents.”
The first featured celebrity to ride The Bus will be Joe St. John, OSU SGA president. He will ride the Orange Route from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, February 25. Other celebrity riders participating in the program include University administrators, Stillwater city commissioners, and the Stillwater mayor.
Soon, when passengers are riding The Bus, they may want to look around to see if there are any celebrities or community leaders on The Bus. They can pass the time chatting with these celebrities, and maybe even have their opinions heard.
